South Korea’s Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on August 22 that it will implement measures to promote Korean tourism in Southeast Asia in order to reduce the country’s dependence on China and Japan.
By utilizing the “New Korean Wave” trend, which is popular in China and Southeast Asia, it will also raise awareness of Korean tourism and create practical demand for winter tourism. Besides appointing Hallyu stars like Girls’ Generation’s Yoona and EXO as ambassadors of Korean tourism, the Ministry will launch promotional advertisements in Southeast Asia and China. Starting from September, this Korean tourism marketing campaign will be introduced in various online and offline media, such as SNS (Social Network Service), television, YouTube, and Facebook in 21 major countries, including Thailand and the Philippines.
