On January 25, the second part of 2020 Idol Star Athletics Championship – Lunar New Year Special aired on MBC. Results from Part 1 are available here.
Today’s episode included the archery male/female semi-finals, a part of the penalty shootouts quarter-finals, the recently introduced equestrianism event, and three rounds of eSports (FIFA and PUBG – solo and team battles).
Gugudan vs. ITZY
First-timers Yuna, Chaeryeong and Lia of ITZY were up against the ISAC archery top team: Gugudan’s Sejeong, Hana and Nayoung.
- Hana (9-10-9) vs. Yuna (6-9-8)
- Nayoung (9-10-9) vs. Chaeryeong (9-8-5)
- Sejeong (10-9-10-8) vs. Lia (8-6-3), Chaeryeong (7)
Gugudan dominated the match, and the final score was 93 to 63.
Oh My Girl vs. WJSN
In the second semi-final match, the reigning champions WJSN (comprised of Dayoung, Yeoreum, and Bona this time) beat Oh My Girl’s Hyojung, YooA and Seunghee with the score of 86 to 66.
- Hyojung (8-6-6) vs. Yeoreum (8-10-9)
- YooA (0-5-7) vs. Bona (8-10-7)
- Seunghee (8-8-8-10) vs. Dayoung (8-9-8-9)
Therefore, the finals will be an exciting match between the gold medalists from the 2019 Chuseok and Seollal specials – WJSN and Gugudan, respectively. You will not want to miss it!
NCT DREAM vs. Stray Kids
In the much expected JYP vs. SM showdown, NCT DREAM defeated their friends Stray Kids with the score of 92 to 86. Once again, Stray Kids lost in archery to an NCT unit, following the match between NCT 127 during the Chuseok Special.
- Chenle (8-8-10) vs. Lee Know (9-9-8)
- Jeno (10-8-9-10) vs. Felix (8-9-9-10)
- Jaemin (10-9-10) vs. Hyunjin (9-8-7)
We got to see the face-off between Golden Child and ONF today. After seven rounds, Golden Child came out as the winners, so they will progress to the semis along with SF9, Stray Kids, and the united soloists (from yesterday).
- Golden Child (Jaehyun, Bomin, Seungmin) vs. ONF (Hyojin, J-US, MK) – 4:3
The preliminary (quarter-final) rounds of the horseback riding event included:
- Ju Haknyeon (THE BOYZ) vs. Arang (PinkFantasy)
- Hyebin (MOMOLAND) vs. Yuqi ((G)I-DLE)
- Dayoung (WJSN) vs. Nam Taehyun (South Club)
- JunJi (OnlyOneOf) vs. Kenta (JBJ95).
The semi-final pairs were Ju Haknyeon and Hyebin on one side, and Dayoung and Kenta on the other…
Both girls lost to the boys, so WJSN and MOMOLAND went head to head for the bronze. Ultimately, Dayoung (after displaying tremendous progress, compared to last year, throughout this competition) won third place against Hyebin, who had some bad luck as her horse Duke casually decided to stop in the middle of the course to eat the artificial plants. You’re not you when you’re hungry, right?
Stay tuned for the finals between the dark horse – JBJ95’s Kenta – and the front-runner with the perfect score – THE BOYZ’ Ju Haknyeon – on Monday!
Four teams made it to the semi-finals: PENTAGON‘s Hui and Shinwon (1st place in Group A), SF9‘s Inseong and Youngbin (2nd place in Group A), Golden Child‘s Y and Jibeom (2nd place in Group B) and the united team made up of Kim Jaehwan and Ha Sungwoon (1st place in Group B).
Yesterday’s first-place teams continued their winning streak in the semis and went on to compete for the gold. Check out the results below.
- PENTAGON vs. Golden Child (Liverpool vs. Paris Saint-Germain) – 3:1
- SF9 vs. UTD (Borussia Dortmund vs. Tottenham) – 0:5
- PENTAGON vs. UTD (Liverpool vs. Tottenham) – 0:2
After claiming the gold, Jaehwan and Sungwoon did a little dance to celebrate and spelled out “I love you” and “Thank you” with their behinds for all the Wannables in the audience. Very on brand for this hilarious duo!
In the second portion of the eSports event, the viewers got to enjoy the real individual game between 47 members of 12 groups:
- THE BOYZ
- Stray Kids
- United Team (Kim Jaehwan, Ha Sungwoon, Park Jihoon, Lee Daehwi)
- Golden Child
- NCT DREAM
ONF’s MK established himself as the new PUBG ace by achieving a total of eight kills, even getting rid of NCT DREAM’s Jaemin, who was another top player. Eventually, MK got eliminated by the best sniper in the game – Park Jihoon.
In other news, NCT DREAM carried on with their teamkill tradition as Jaemin ran over Jisung with a car, eliminating the maknae just like he did in the 2019 Chuseok special.
LOONA’s Chuu was the only girl left in the final five, becoming a self-proclaimed “icon of honest survival” with zero kills. After adorably cheering on her character while running away from the magnetic field through the whole game and even managing to escape Park Jihoon, she was left vulnerable and got eliminated by N.Flying’s Chahun.
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Golden Child’s Y placed third, leaving Ha Sungwoon and Park Jihoon of the united team to fight it out for first place. This intense Wanna One (1 on 1) battle ended with Ha Sungwoon eliminating this year’s favorite and winning the gold medal!
The team game got even more heated, as N.Flying, SF9, and UTD squared up to one another after the rest of the groups were eliminated.
In a nerve-wrecking showdown between the complete SF9 team (Youngbin, Dawon, Inseong, Jaeyoon) and Jihoon and Sungwoon of UTD, the PUBG ace duo beat the odds and led their team to victory! Ha Sungwoon thus officially swept the gold medals in the 2020 ISAC Seollal Special eSports event.
Congratulations to all the winners, and stay tuned for Part 3 of 2020 ISAC on Monday, January 27!
